The Way the Cookie Crumbles

Hey everyone! Hope you've had a good week. Unfortunately, I've been sick for most of last week and thus napping copiously instead of doing any studying. Woops. On the bright side, my friend Kimberley aka Kim came over Saturday night for a classic girl's night consisting of baking, movies and doing each other's makeup for no good reason. It was so good to catch up with her and being able to end my rather abysmal week on a high note.

For the night's baking adventure, we decided to go simple and bake chocolate cookies using Tanya Burr's recipe. All you need is:
  • 200g butter
  • 175g self-raising flour
  • 300g caster sugar
  • 75g cocoa powder (we used cacao)
  • A large bar of white chocolate/milk chocolate (we also added Mars)

We didn't use these exact measurements and well, it turned out interesting, to say the least. I'll let you see for yourself.

Waterfall of sugar added to buttery goodness
One egg added to a creamy mixture
Mix mix mix
Mars Madness
Oven ready!
Such high hopes for these babies
After placing them in the oven for roughly 15 minutes we returned to take them out and well, they turned out like this....

My reaction was literally "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!" Our cookies looked like they had been usurped by pure evil. Our cute baking night went downhill real quick when we baked devil's cookies. We have no idea how we managed to somehow mess up baking cookies. Like, literally, butter sugar and flour in circle format. We're not complete culinary failures though, they still ended up tasting good :) We were never going to get the beautiful "finished product" photo. But hey, that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Book Swap- I'm borrowing Kim's Night Circus and I am extremely excited to read it!
The rest of the night was spent playing around with makeup, talking and watching Hector and the  Search For Happiness whilst eating mankind's ugliest cookies ever made. The movie was about a psychiatrist on his own quest for happiness, following his colourful adventures around the world. It was super cute and definitely worth the watch if you need a mood lifter. There will little lessons of happiness that popped up throughout the film. My favourite being "Happiness is not attaching too much importance to what other people think", which I think is something we can all use a constant reminder of. As always, thanks for reading!

Book & Make-up Haul (aka The Unnecessary Expenditure of Money)

Hey everyone! Hope life is treating you well. Over the past few weeks, I have developed a dangerous addiction to online shopping. It most definitely has to do with my love for opening packages - it's like Christmas all year round! Anyway, I'd thought I'd share with you a few purchases I've acquired that I'm currently obsessing over.

Finally got the Australis Contouring Kit after it's been sold out for the longest time

Stila packaging is to die for
Almost too pretty to use

This collection has the nicest colours omg I want them all
L'Oreal products I picked up when Myer was having 40%
I highly recommend the Book Depository for cheap books! I also love how they send personalised bookmarks with every order.
I've read this years ago but never owned it so I grabbed my own copy - I love this version so much
A classic in YA - I distinctively remember the afternoon I read this in one sitting
Finally got my hands on 'IT'
It's as sassy, quirky and indie as you'd expect Alexa Chung to be
A backpack I bought for uni (I also got one in black) & some daily essentials
I love how fast Luxola packages arrive!
*intense excitement*
Vegan Face Brush Set - these brushes are sooo soft I can't wait to use them

I swear the rate at which I buy makeup vastly exceeds the rate I use up products but, oh well. Girl can never have enough, right? (some mean self-justification there). That's all for the time being BUT I just made another huge book order on book depository that I'm very excited about - those will be arriving within 2 weeks or so so expect a similar post in the near future! Until then, thank you for reading

Much love, Thy x.

28 Days of February

Hey everyone! I'm currently writing this while on a just-finished-a-book-that-took-forever high. There is nothing that betters the satisfaction of finishing a challenging book. To be truthful, I had an intense love-hate relationship with Cloud Atlas but the last sentence was so fitting (somehow managing to tie every story - six altogether that spanned over centuries) that it won me over. The book was decidedly worth the read despite moments where I just thought I wasn't going to make it out alive. The more I reflect on it, the more I admire the audacity of the author to write  such a unique piece. The good news is, since this book has taken me so long (almost all of February) I've got a few lined up which I'm eager to read.

Other than simultaneously loving and hating my way through Cloud Atlas, some rather monumental things happened last month. Mainly, I started university! I'm currently studying Medical Imaging at QUT. I've only had one week so I can't form a justifiable opinion just yet but I've been kind of sick which probably relates to why I didn't enjoy my first week much. I'm also the kind of person who just immediately dislikes change (yes I know this is a character flaw) but knowing me, I'm likely to end up loving uni, or so I hope. Seeing as I blogged about the main events this month, this post is just an assortment of little day-to-day things. Happy reading/viewing

February 5th - 6th: Jess & I had a sleepover at hers after we spent the day shopping at Indro

The customary experimental smoothie mmm craving
People used to think we were sisters in primary school HAHA I miss those days
When you match colour schemes with the tiles
Koko Black
One huge cup of chai
Breakfast at Cafe 66
I love cafes that sell flowers
Being apart of Asian culture, this month included numerous Lunar New Years celebrations. I love this time of the year because it means dressing up in traditional dresses, seeing your extended family, and ofc getting money from your elders. I also attended the annually held Vietnamese New Year festival, but I was literally only there to receive an award and immediately left after to Tiff's party. I didn't take any photos at Tiff's because I suck, but mainly because I was feeling sick still.

$100 gift card yasss
The next day, Sarah and I attended AVHPA's Tet Gala. We were fortunate enough to be invited due to our achievement in last year's Vietnamese exams. The event was held at the Jindalee Hotel and it was a really enjoyable night despite the fact I got nominated with four other girls for Best Dressed and was pressured into taking a catwalk THREE TIMES.

Cheers to the bar tab

Something that I can't explain compelled me to take this photo
I love the city in the early mornings
That's pretty much sums up February! OH I also watched True Detective this month and if you haven't you seriously must. I love Matthew McConaughey so much and I don't even find him attractive, so you know he has to be good. Thank you as always for reading, I swear I will try to update as much as I can. I'm hoping uni doesn't consume too much of my time, but I could be dreaming. I'll find out. Take care :)
